Pen and brown ink on grayish green paper, tipped onto a sheet of brown paper, circa 1872. 114x71 mm; 4 1/2x2 7/8 inches. Signed and inscribed "This pen & ink drawing was done by Whistler" by Walter Greaves, Whistler's first student and assistant, in pen and brown ink, lower edge of the support sheet.

Ex-collection Dr. Max A. Goldstein, St. Louis, with the ink stamp (Lugt 2824, lower left recto of the support sheet); Conrad R. Graeber Fine Art, Glyndon, Maryland, with a copy of the original invoice; acquired from the above by the current owner, 1993
