Drypoint on tissue-thin cream laid Japan paper, circa 1861. 120x160 mm; 4 3/4x6 1/4 inches. Fifth state (of 5), with the artist's signature in the plate lower left. A brilliant, richly-inked impression of this extremely scarce, early drypoint, with abundant burr throughout.
We have found only one other impression at auction in the past 25 years; it sold at Sotheby's, New York, October 31, 2003, lot 16. Kennedy 69.
