JAMES A. M. WHISTLER
The Punt.

Etching on Chine collé, 1861. 121x165 mm; 4 3/4x6 1/2 inches, full margins. Third state (of 4). Published by Day & Son, London. A very good impression.

This etching and the proceeding lot were used to illustrate John Hamilton Reynolds' "The Angler's Soliloquy" from Passages from Modern English Poets, Illustrated by the Junior Etching Club and was published by William Tegg in 1862.

The Junior Etching Club formed in London in 1857 and Whistler joined the club soon after his arrival from Paris (spurning Haden's Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers some 20 years later). Kennedy 85.
