Drypoint printed in brownish black on warm cream laid tissue-thin Japan paper, 1861. 157x285 mm; 6 1/4x11 1/4 inches, wide margins. One of only several proofs. A superb, richly-inked impression of this extremely scarce print.
According to Kennedy, "Only 4 impressions are known before cancellation of the plate." We have found only one other impression at auction in the past 20 years. It sold at Swann, May 5, 2005, sale 2042, lot 365. Kennedy 81.
