Each with a gravure frontispiece after a photograph by Alvin Langdon Coburn. 8vo, cloth-backed handmade boards with gilt-lettered leather spine labels, spines toned somewhat unevenly, head of spines puckering slightly, intermittent rubbing to spine labels (heaviest to final 2 vols.), few corners bumped; hinges cracked or tender on several volumes, offsetting to front endpapers from laid in newsclipping in one vol., Anne A. the most important edition of james, with an autograph note signed by the author tipped in. limited to 156 numbered sets, this being number 75. Printed on Ruisdael Handmade Paper. With the publisher's hand corrected prospectus (now calling for 24 volumes). The ANS (folded, 16 April 1882, "My Dear Sir") concludes with a salutation in James' hand to journalist and philanthropist F.B. Sanborn who wrote several biographies of American Trancendentalists.
