Other impressions of this print were gifted by Ruth and Jacob Kainen to the collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Looking Upward was created by Wells the year before he began teaching printmaking at Howard University in Washington, DC. A detail of this print was used to illustrate the book jacket spine of The Negro Wage Earner, 1930, by Lorenzo J. Greene and Carter G. Woodson. Powell/Reynolds p. 15.
