"In the early days of [the 20th] century the ambition of all illustrators was to see their work in Scribner's. Flagg was no exception. The prospect of an illustration in Scribner's was of far greater significance to him than to have it exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1900" (Flagg p. 19). He began working for the magazine with some regularity in 1903. In addition to designing this poster, Flagg also provided illustrations for one of the short stories in this issue. previously unrecorded and rare. Not in Flagg, not in Keihl.
