Biles was born in Portland, Oregon, but lived and worked in California as an illustrator for newspapers between 1896 and 1904. This is the original artwork from page eight of one of the sections in the San Francisco Chronicle on December 29, 1901 - the blank spaces were filled in with photographs the captions for which are already in place.
