This is the third plate from a set of three depicting what is most likely a wax model by the sculptor Adriaen de Vries (1556-1626). Show from different perspectives, the three engravings by Muller (1571-1628) provide a virtual circuit of the statue. No autograph version of the statue is known to survive, but the model is known from various prints as well as through various bronze casts. De Vries created it most likely between 1585 and 1590 during his final years in Florence or when he was briefly at the court of Savoy in Turin in 1588/89. Bartsch 79.
