In this very late poster, we see how Toorop has left behind the sinewy, curvaceous lines of Art Nouveau and embraced the angular, symmetrical forms of the newer Art Deco style. In accordance with the majority of Dutch posters of the era, it is constructed along a vertical axis, but it has become much more of a geometrical game than his earlier works. Often inspired by religious topics, many of Toorop's paintings are symbolist, and here for the 27th Eucharist Congress, he found the right subject to let his mystical inspiration flow.
