A Southern California-born artist, Bauman went to live in New York City's East Village in the 1980s where her interest in punk culture led her to street art and informed some of her other work. Her graffiti-inspired paintings are marked by her use of brightly-colored spray paint. She did several collaborations with Marc C., of the post-punk band Live Skull, in the early 1980s.
