JEAN CARLU (1900-1997) JOURNÉE NATIONALE DE LA PAIX. 1936.
61 3/4x45 1/2 inches, 156 3/4x115 1/4 cm. L'Office de Propagande Graphique pour la Paix, Pais.
Condition B+: light staining, creases, abrasions and overpainting in text and image; minor repaired tears and creases at edges.
Formed in the 1930s, L'Office de Propagande Pour La Paix strongly advocated for peace throughout Europe, as the winds of war began to blow more fiercely. Carlu designed several posters for the group. A fist gripping a snake has been a common trope in propaganda posters around the world following the First World War. This is the larger format.
