Don arrived in Paris from Bucharest during World War I. Before long, through a fortuitous connection with François André, he had completely acquainted himself with "Tout-Paris." André was the owner of casinos in Deauville, Cannes, and La Baule and singled Don out as his favorite designer and decorator. He had him design posters and decorate balls and gala events for his rich clients. Don also worked for show business clients, with whom he became associated through his wife, the famous French actress Berthe Bovy. Suzy Prim (1896-1995) was a major French theatre and movie star who appeared in over 80 films. This poster is a classic Don portrait, with the elegant performer set starkly against a solid colored background, and it is singularly eye-catching as a result.
