Don arrived in Paris from Bucharest during World War I. Before long, through a fortuitous connection with François André, he had become acquainted with "Le Tout-Paris." Andre, who owned casinos in Deauville, Cannes, and La Baule, singled Don out as his favorite designer and decorator. He had him design posters and decorate balls and gala events for Paris' high society. Don also created travel posters for the Côte d'Azur. Riviera 43, Voyage p. 78.
