JEAN DUPAS (1882-1964) "THENCE TO HYDE PARK, WHERE MUCH GOOD COMPANY, AND MANY FINE LADIES." 1930.
40x50 inches, 101 1/2x127 cm. Johnson, Riddle & Co. Ltd., London.
Condition B+ / B: mat staining, restored losses and overpainting in margins; repaired tears and creases in margins and image and along vertical and horizontal folds; repaired pin holes in corners; colors attenuated; toned.
Dupas enjoyed working in large formats (he has been quoted as saying "the larger my work, the happier I am"); his murals adorned some of the great French ocean liners of the era (the Normandie, the Ile de France and the Liberté) and the French Pavilion at the New York World's Fair. Many of his smaller works still bear a mural-like feeling and composition. Richmond p. 115.
