Elite social events in Paris in the "roaring twenties" were unrivalled in their luxury and extravagance. This poster is a plush announcement of just such an event. This masquerade and costume ball would have taken place the evening after the Grand Prix, the final event of the horseracing season at Longchamps. The exotic Asian princess in the poster is seated atop a pillar covered in the richest imaginable textile. She is surrounded by exotic green clouds of smoke that may suggest incense or even opium. Even the typography evokes an Asian feeling. This is an example of the young Domergue at his very best.
