JEAN-LOUIS FORAIN
Two lithographs.

Rue Laffite, circa 1892. 260x2115 mm; 10 1/4x8 1/2 inches, wide margins. Signed and inscribed "ici a 50 exp. no 41" in pencil, upper right * Chez L'husisier, circa 1891. 192x226 mm; 7 1/2x10 1/4 inches, wide margins. Edition of 50. Signed and dedicated in crayon, upper left. Printed by Belfond & Cie, Paris, with the blind stamp (Lugt 225d, lower left). Very good impressions of these scarce and early lithographs.

Forain (1852-1931) was a prominent Parisian caricaturist and lithographer. His style was heavily influenced by Honoré Daumier (see lots 9 and 10) and his friend of over 50 years, the Impressionist Edgar Degas. Many if Forain's color pastels and oils bear a close resemblance to Degas' work. Guérin 6 and 3.

Property from the Eric Carlson Irrevocable Trust.
