Negulesco (1900-1993) was born in Romania and moved to the U.S. in the 1910s, first to New York and Washington, D.C., then to Seattle. He trained and worked as an artist early in his career, later moving to Los Angeles and becoming a film director. Negulesco's prominence rose during the 1940s as he directed such gritty Hollywood classics as "The Mask of Dimitrios" (1944), "The Conspirators" (1944) and "Road House" (1948). He was in demand as a director during the 1950s and 1960s, ultimately retiring to Marbella, Spain.
