JEAN WIDMER (1929- CCI NOUVEAUX ESPACES, CENTRE DE CREATION INDUSTRIELLE. 1970. Two posters.
25 1/2x19 1/2 inches.
Condition varies, generally A-: minor abrasions in image and margins. Paper.
In 1952, after studying in Zurich under Johannes Itten, Widmer moved to Paris. Working as the art director for Galleries Lafayette<> and Le Jardin des Modes<> magazine, the assigment to create the CCI image in the Arts Decoratifs museum opened up to him the way to design the visual communication for the most important French institutions (the Pompidou center and the Bibliotheque de France), as well as French motor ways and the Paris airports. In France, the 21 images he designed between 1969 and 1975 for the CCI were a manifesto for contemporary graphism. They were all based on the same concept: play with fundamental forms, bright colors with Helvetica type grouped at the top. This one, in flourescent colors, was number 6 in the series. When the Pompidou Center opened, the CCI was integrated into the new structure. One copy before lettering (very rare).
