JESSE JAY MCVICKER
Industrial Elements.

Watercolor on heavy wove paper, 1955. 390x575 mm; 15 1/4x22 5/8 inches. Signed and dated in watercolor, upper right recto.

Ex-collection private collection of Betty and Douglas Duffy (owners of Bethesda Art Gallery); thence by descent to current owner, private collection, Houston.

McVicker (1911-2004) was born in Oklahoma and studied at Oklahoma State University, where from the 1950s through the 1970s he was a professor of fine art. During the 1930s-40s, McVicker worked in a representational style, and many of his subjects were drawn from Oklahoma landscapes and industry. However, by the mid-1950s, he had shifted to a more abstract style and incorporated a brighter, more colorful palette in his work.
