JIM DINE
Two Hearts in the Forest.

Color lithograph and woodcut on Arches rolled paper, 1981. 915x1537 mm; 36x60 1/2 inches, full margins. Signed, dated and numbered 21/24 in pencil, lower left. Printed by Topaz Editions, Tampa (lithograph), and the artist, Putney (woodcut). Published by Pace Editions, Inc., New York. A very good impression with strong colors.

According to D'Oench and Feinberg, "In 1981, Dine [born 1935] made a four-color lithograph from three zinc plates titled Two Gulf Coast Hearts. The edition printed by Julio Juristo in Tampa was shipped to Putney, where Dine decided he was not satisfied with the results. He cut a woodblock and printed it himself on half of the Juristo prints and titled this new edition Two Hearts in the Forest. Part of this block was reused for A Woodcut in the Snow. The other half of the Juristo edition is the basis for Fortress of the Heart." D'Oench/Feinberg 86.
