Condition A.
A cartoon map of Yosemite in reds, browns, greens, blues and yellows depicting sights, activities and geological formations. Explaining his own light-hearted approach to depicting the great park, the artists writes in the legend, "There is so much of grandeur and reverential solemnity to Yosemite that a bit of humor may help the better to reconcile ourselves to the triviality of man. Give me the souls who smile at their devotions! Now, should this light effort -- not altogether truthful, so not altogether dull -- afford you a tithe of mirth, I shall feel that i have added to your reverence for Yosemite". A prominent California artist of Uruguayan heritage, Mora was known as a cartoonist, painter, cartographer, illustrator , photographer and sculptor. In 1998 The Montery Museum of Art held an exhibition of the artist's work which they described as follows: "Apart from its artistic merits, Mora's work is valued for its historical significance. As an astute observer, Mora created art that eloquently and accurately described the western land and way of life he admired, whether his subject was vaqueros, Hopi katsina figures, the Arizona landscape, turn-of-the-century Yosemite, or the California missions."
