JOAN MIRÓ
La Créole.

Soft ground etching and aquatint printed in dark brown, 1958. 310x135 mm; 121/4x51/2 inches, full margins. Signed and numbered 39/75 in pencil, lower margin. Printed by Crommelynck and Dutrou, Paris. Published by Maeght, Paris. A very good impression.

Like Rembrandt, Miró (1893-1983) was a highly experimental printmaker. He meticulously created tones of light and dark in this print using both etching and aquatint, creating bold contours and pale shading, and simultaneously managed to monumentalize this abstract image of a female nude. Dupin 147.
