JOAN MIRÓ
Le Fantôme de l'Atelier.

Color aquatint, etching and lithograph, 1983-87. 910x635 mm; 35 7/8x25 inches (sheet), full margins. With the artist's signature ink stamp and numbered 26/65 in pencil, lower margin. With the artist's estate ink stamp and signed by the artist's grandson, Emili Fernandez Miró, in pencil, verso. Printed and published by Lacourière and Frélaut, Paris. A very good impression with strong colors.

Miró (1893-1983) worked indefatigably until the end of his long, productive career. One of his largest, most ambitious sculptures, The Sun, the Moon and One Star (Miró's Chicago), was completed and installed in the downtown Loop area of Chicago in 1981. According to his printer Dupin, "Miró was a prolific engraver whose work would often accumulate beyond what a print studio could handle. The engraver is always ahead of the printer; at his death, Miró left behind 80 prints, each complete with its B.A.T. (bon à tirer impression), dated and signed. Over the following years they were printed and published, stamped with his signature, numbered and certified on the back by his grandson Emili Fernandez Miró for the Miró estate." Dupin 1225.
