JOAN MIRÓ
La Main.

Color soft-ground etching and aquatint, 1953. 355x485 mm; 14 1/4x19 1/2 inches, full margins. Signed, dated and numbered 42/75 in pencil, lower margin. Printed by Lacourière, Paris. Published by Maeght, Paris. A superb, well-inked impression of this scarce, early etching, with strong colors.

Miró executed the design for this etching on the plate at Stanley W. Hayter's Atelier 17, New York, in May, 1947, and later returned with the plate to Paris where it was completed and printed by Lacourière. The title for the etching, La Main (The Hand), derives from the hand print of the artist's left hand impressed into the soft-ground etching in the lower right corner of the plate. Dupin 100.
