JOHANNES HANDSCHIN INDIANA STUMPEN. Circa 1940
271/2x20 inches. A Trub, Aarau.
Condition A: creases in margins. Printed on board.
Most commonly in the form of a cigar store Indian, the image of Native Americans has long been associated with tobacco; and for good reason, as tobacco was the New World's gift to Europe. Against a mustard colored background this brown-skinned chief, with a red head dress adorned with black and white feathers, stares coldly off into the distance; presenting a strong, fierce, exotic aura around the cigars that bare his image.
