This impressive work on paper is one in a series of large See Saw or Couples drawings that the artist made of an abstracted couple over a 10-year period. They all derive from his studies for the Family Unity mural, 1974-78; others in the series include Wedding Dance, Red Family and Nesting, each illustrated in Olive Jensen Thiesen's A Life on Paper: The Drawings and Lithographs of John Thomas Biggers. Thiesen pp. 78-79 and 96-99.
