JOHN HASSALL (1868-1948) NESTLÉ'S MILK.
118 1/2x79 inches, 301x200 cm. Waterlow & Sons Ltd., London.
Condition B+: repaired tears, creases and abrasions in margins and image; restoration along vertical and horizontal folds. Four sheets.
A delightful image of a young aristocratic girl returning from a trip to the market. She is accompanied by two dignified servants in the elegant livery; one is carrying her umbrella, the other her single purchase, a tin of Nestle's milk. Hassall studied in Antwerp and trained at the Academie Juliau in Paris before settling in London. He was a prolific designer, creating over six hundred posters in a seven-year period. He created advertisements for both theaters and for commercial products, such as Nestle's. Unreferenced.
