John Hassall was a celebrated British advertising artist and prominent illustrator of children's books. He designed the original poster for J. M. Barrie's play Peter Pan. He opened the New Art School and School of Poster Design in Kensington where his students included H. M. Bateman and Harry Rountree. He was also the father of the poet Christopher Hassall and the distinguished printmaker Joan Hassall.
