JOHN ROZELLE (1944 - )
ROHO Series #119.

Mixed media on paper, 1987. 685x482 mm; 27x19 inches. Signed, titled and dated in pencil, lower margin.

Provenance: acquired from Bill Hodges Gallery, NY; private collection, NY.

John Rozelle has described his artistic approach as holistic: "I try to find spiritual connections in object-making. African sensibilities are used in the presentation of contemporary social/political concerns, much like objects in use in African societies where traditional practices exist today".

Rozelle is a collagist, painter, sculptor, and educator from St. Louis, Missouri, currently living in Banyoles, Girona, Spain. He holds a BFA in painting and sculpture from Washington University and an MFA from Fontbonne University, Saint Louis. From 1990 - 2009, Rozelle was an associate professor emeritus in the Drawing and Painting Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work is in the permanent collections of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Margaret Harwell Museum, Spertus Museum of Jewish Studies, The Studio Museum in Harlem and the California African-American Museum.
