JOHN SLOAN
Hanging Clothes.

Monotype on cream wove paper, 1907. 136x175 mm; 5 1/2x7 inches, full margins. Signed, dated and annotated in pencil, lower margin. Ex-collection Kraushaar Galleries, New York, with the label. A very good impression of this extremely scarce print.

Sloan (1871-1951) made more than 300 etchings and lithographs throughout his career, occasionally, he also created monotypes, which he would have painted on copper plates and printed on an etching press. He made his first prints of New York in 1905, shortly after his move from Philadelphia where he had trained and worked as an illustrator. There are additional monotypes by Sloan in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Metroploitan Museum of Art, New York.
