JOHN SLOAN
Sixth Avenue, Greenwich Village.

Etching, 1923. 125x174 mm; 4 7/8x7 inches, wide margins. Eighth state (of 8). Edition of 75 (from an intended edition of 100). Signed, titled and inscribed "100 proofs" in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression.

Sloan (1871-1951) wrote in his diary, "Looking at this etching with the plates of Albrecht Dürer in mind, one notes a great difference in design and technique. Here, life is stressed, and formal composition is less evident, the handling more emotional. A comparison of extremes, perhaps." Morse 207.
