This lithograph is based on a mural series that Curry (1897-1946) created for the Kansas State Capitol, Topeka, 1937. These murals were divided into three themes: the settlement of Kansas (depicting the conquistadors and plainsmen); the homesteaders (which included John Brown); and pastoral prosperity or representations of modern Kansas (the current lot).
