first edition. inscribed and signed by editors eugene and maria jolas and robert sage, and with an autograph letter signed by kay boyle, discussing a possible visit in Paris, all to recipients Harry and Perry Culley. Letter is 1 page, 8vo, with postmarked envelope. 1 October 1947. A collection of the best stories from the famous avant-garde journal which became the mouthpiece of the era, published at the end of its first year. Boyle had a brief affair with Sage in the summer of 1928. He took the only copy of her still unpublished autobiographical novel The Book of Cincinnati and sent it to a Chicago publisher friend of his, who promptly lost it. Jolas, then writing a literary column for the Paris edition of the Chicago Tribune, sought out Boyle's contributions for transition.
