Additional Details

first collected edition, small-paper set; second issue of Volume 2, with the sheets of the 1631 edition bound with cancel title dated 1640. The complicated publishing history of this collection of Jonson's plays and miscellaneous writings resulted in numerous bibliographical variations. The contents of this set follow the collations given in Pforzheimer, except that in Volume 2 The Staple of Newes is bound before The Divell is an Asse, and in Volume 3 the portion comprising The Magnetick Lady, A Tale of a Tub, and The Sad Shepherd is bound between the Masques and Under-woods. In Volume 1, the general title is in the state with William Stansby imprint; title of Every Man out of His Humour in state without border; G1.6 and G2.5 in second setting per Pforzheimer; title of Cynthia's Revels in state without border; title of Poetaster in state with border; and gathering 2Y, 4Q3v, and 4Q4r in small-paper setting. Pforzheimer 559, 560; STC 14751, 14754.
