Oil, gouache and pencil on cream wove paper, circa 1948. 230x285 mm; 91/8x111/4 inches. Ex-collection the artist, thence to the current owner, acquired directly from the artist at Black Mountain College, North Carolina. Partially laid down, with recto edges adhered to the mat and losses in the margins.

Both Albers and his wife, Anni, were invited to teach at Black Mountain College in 1933. They left Berlin in the fall of the same year, after closing the Bauhaus, and arrived in North Carolina on November 28. The Albers taught at Black Mountain College for 15 years, resigning in 1949 and moving on to New Haven, Connecticut, and various teaching positions at Yale University.
