Auchentaller joined the the Secessionist movement in 1898, and designed several posters in the Secession style. In writing about a different poster that Auchentaller designed for a lottery, Koschatzky and Kossatz describe an identical artistic style as employed here: "The effect of depth given by the overalpping and shortening of the numerous [gray] surfaces is counteracted by the regularity of the color surfaces" (Vienna Secession p. 100).
