JOSEF MÜLLER-BROCKMANN (1914-1996) BALLY. Gouache maquette. 19 1/2x16 1/2 inches, 49 1/2x42 cm Condition A-: minor restoration in margins; abrasions in image. This maquette shows an unknown side of Müller-Brockmann's talent, the artist as an illustrator. The nature and color of the composition, a Christmas advertisement for a shoe company, are atypical of the artist's work. It is such a departure from his normal typographic and photomontage work, that it would be hard to identify as his, were it not for an ink-stamp on the verso reading "Entwurf : J. Müller-Brockmann."
