JOSEF MÜLLER-BROCKMANN (1914-1996) SCHÜTZT DAS KIND! 1953.
50 1/4x36 inches, 127 1/2x91 1/2 cm. Lithographie & Cartonnage, Zürich.
Condition A-: minor repaired tears, creases and restoration at edges; minor abrasions in image.
Müller-Brockmann, the undisputed leader of the Zürich post-war graphic school, was a designer, typographer, teacher and author. He also left behind several historically important poster series, such as the strictly typographic posters with abstract lines that he created for Musica Viva, and the series of powerful photomontages commissioned in the 1950s by the Automobile Club. Here, Müller-Brockmann combines the influence of Herbert Matter in his use of photography and the dynamic "mise en page" rules of Constructivism with his own strict, clean style. The result is quite striking - utilizing a diagonal, the image features a huge motorcycle meanacingly bearing down on a child playing.
