Additional Details

From the Collection of Jan Šampalík, Sudek's friend; to the Present Wwner.

As a young photographer in southern Bohemia in the 1920s, Sudek was interested in photographing the contrast of the flat landscape of his childhood with vertical rows of trees planted as windbreaks. The photographs associated with the cycle Polabaska krajina (Landscape along the Elbe River) are mostly dated from 1920-24, with some from 1927. Similiar images of trees are reproduced in the monograph Josef Sudek Fotografie (1956).
