Joseph E. Norman is a distinguished painter, printmaker and art educator. Born in Chicago, Norman earned his MA at the University of Illinois and an MFA at the University of Cincinnati in 1986. He launched his career teaching and exhibiting at the Newport Museum of Art in Newport, RI. After a period of living in Berlin in the 1990s, his Berlin Autumn series, a large body of organic abstraction in various media, was organized as a traveling exhibition in 2000 by the Newport Museum of Art. He is currently Professor of Art at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia, as well as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Art at Johnson & Wales University. He is the former Chairman of the Painting and Drawing Department. His artworks are in many museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Gallery and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
