JOSEPH-HENRI PONCHIN (DATES UNKNOWN) CAMBODGE / L'INDOCHINE FRANCAISE. 1931.
43 1/8x28 1/2 inches. D'Extreme-Orient, Hanoi.
Condition B+: restored losses in margins, some slightly affecting text; repaired tears and creases in image.
This rare and unusual poster was printed in Hanoi during the height of French colonialism. The French took control of Indochina (Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam) in 1863 and effectively stayed in power until 1953. Here, the wonders of the ancient Angkor temples in the jungles of Cambodia are depicted. This poster is one in an exceptional series of Art Deco travel posters for Indochina all designed by Ponchin. Voyage p. 123.
