Joyce Ballantyne began painting pin-ups for Brown & Bigelow calendars in 1945, where she designed direct mail brochures for the company before eventually creating a full twelve-page calendar. She continued to have a successful calendar/pinup career, often using herself as a model. She expanded to other commercial forms of illustration and eventually turned her focus to portraiture.
