One of three virulently anti-Semetic movies made at the request of the Propaganda Ministry of the German Third Reich in 1940. First to be released was The Rothschilds, followed by Jud Suss and then Der Ewige Jude. According to the Encyclopedia of the Holocaust, "Jud Suss was extremely successful. Heinrich Himmler ordered all members of the SS and the police to see it. It was also viewed by concentration camp guards. Witnesses saw a Hitlerjugend group in Vienna trample a Jewish man to death after seeing the film. It was shown in small towns in Poland prior to the deportations of Jews in order to prevent help being given to them by the local population. The director, Veit Harlan, was tried for crimes against humanity at Nuremberg, but the case was dismissed because of the difficulty in obtaining evidence." This was for the Belgian release of the film.
