"In 1897, Rudolphe Salis, founder of the Chat Noir, and consequently father of the Montmartre cabaret, dies. For a short time the premises on the Rue Victor Masse are unsuccessfully operated under the name of the Pacha Noir Hotel. Grün barely has time to design a passe-partout poster showing the limited scale of the project. The image is delightful . . . The program, left blank, shows the uncertainties of the show and, at the very least, the lack of prestigious management. The fact that all of the posters recovered so far are without text confirms that the enterprise ended in a fiasco" (Grun p. 34). Grun p. 34.
