JULES CHÉRET (1836-1932) PALAIS DE GLACE / CHAMPS-ELYSÉES. 1894.
95 1/2x33 1/2 inches, 242 1/2x85 cm. Chaix, Paris.
Condition B+: minor restoration and overpainting in margins and image.
Between 1893 and 1900, Chéret designed seven posters for the Palais de Glace, an ice-skating rink located on the Champs-Elysées. Here, the elongated format, which he used for three of the designs, allowed him to more fully render the gracefully controlled movement of his central figure.
