JULES CHÉRET (1836-1932) SAXOLÉINE. 1891.
48 3/4x34 3/4 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition B+: repaired tears, creases and abrasions in margins and image; restored loss in upper right corner.
Between 1891 and 1900 Chéret designed twenty images for Saxoléine. Year after year these posters helped to build the company's image, ensuring immediate recognition, by using the same concept of a woman holding a lamp. However, in each poster, the color of the lamp shade, the color of the woman's dress or her position with the lamp is changed. Broido 945 and pl. 38, Maindron 784, DFP-II 223, Chéret 1235.
