JULES CHERET [PANTOMIMES LUMINEUSE.] 1892.
461/2x331/2 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition B: restored losses, staining and repaired tears in margins; restoration along vertical and horizontal folds. Framed.
Cheret designed over 20 posters for the Musee Grevin. For this image, advertising an early form of movie that was basically a projected shadow show of the kind that had been popularized in the Chat Noir, he uses one of his classic images of a Cherette and Pierrot. He is clearly trying to evoke the light effects which were the main appeal of the show. This is the version before lettering. Broido 468, Maidron 381, Wine Spectator 8.
