JULES CHERET (1836-1932) QUINQUINA DUBONNET. 1896. [Courrier Francais Supplement.]

Condition B+: restored losses in top and bottom margins; repaired tears in margins.
Dubonnet was originally a wine and spirit wholesale company, that began marketing their own brand of quinine wine in 1880. Amongst the posters Cheret designed for the company, two depicted a woman drinking with a cat at her side. The cat was Dubonnet's emblem, and is still seen on the company's labels today. Cheret's Dubonnet posters all appeared as supplements to Le Courier Francais. In the 1930s Dubonnet benefited from more inspired advertising creativity, as A. M. Cassandre's posters for them helped drive them to the top of the market! Broido 871.
