JULES CHERET ELDORADO. 1894.
461/2x32 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition B: restored losses in top margin; vertical and horizontal folds; creases in image. Matted and Framed.
L'Eldorado, located on the Boulevard de Strasbourg, was the king of Parisian music halls. It was a huge, brilliantly decorated room where only the biggest stars would be invited to perform (at the beginning of her career Mistinguett was deemed too vulgar to appear on their stages). It is no wonder that such a mecca of performing arts, society and theater would inspire Cheret to create this brilliant allegory of dance and music. It is a classic Cheret from his most flamboyant period. Broido 216, Maindron 189, DFP-II 244.
